ENSURE THAT CIRCULAR LOGGING IS NOT ENABLED

ENSURE THAT NO NTBACKUP IS RUN ONCE [DATALOCK SOFTWARE] IS INSTALLED

DATA FROM THE EXCHANGE DATABASE WILL BE BACKED UP TO A TEMPORARY DIRECTORY BEFORE BEING SENT TO THE [DATALOCK SERVER].  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT SPACE ON YOUR SERVER TO STORE THIS DATA WHEN YOU RUN THE BACKUP JOB.

TIP: HAVING THE TEMPORARY DIRECTORY ON DIFFERENT HDD'S THAN THE DATABASE INCREASES I./O AVAILABILITY AND WILL SPEED THE BACKUP PROCESS UP SIGNIFICANTLY

TIP: MAKE SURE THE WINDOWS SERVICE "Online Backup Scheduler" HAS BEEN GIVEN SPECIFIC ADMINISTRATIVE LOG IN CREDENTIALS (more on this later in the article)

Please follow the instructions below to backup your Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 / 2003 / 2007 using
DataLock Online Backup:

i. Open [DataLock Software]

Otherwise, please install DataLock Online Backup to the domain controller of this Active Directory and select the [System State] checkbox on that computer.  If you do select System State backup here, DO NOT create another system state Backup Set.

g. Set the backup schedule for Database Backup.
h. Set the backup schedule for Transaction Log Backup.

(Note: Consider backing up your database once per night, and set the Transactional Logs to backup every 1 hour.)

(Note: If performing a DataDump to External HDD, please untick the "Run scheduler on this computer" box.  Leave unticked until you hear from DataLock with specific instrcutions to enable the scheduler.  Failure to untick this box will result in the Exchange database being upload via your clients internet connection.

i. Set the encryption algorithm, encryption mode and encrypting key for this backup set.
